Pumpkin Measurements
Measurement Units:
Circumference (around widest part): inches
Height (stem to base, straight line): inches
Width (side to side, widest part): inches
Measurements should be taken carefully for the best estimate. See “How it Works” below.

How It Works & Measurement Tips

This calculator uses a simplified formula based on common methods for estimating pumpkin weight from its dimensions. It’s a fun way to get a ballpark figure!

  • Circumference: Measure around the pumpkin at its widest point, parallel to the ground. A flexible tape measure is best.
  • Height: Measure from the very bottom (blossom end, where it sat on the ground) to the top of the pumpkin’s “shoulders” (where the stem begins to flare out), in a straight line. Do not include the stem itself.
  • Width: Measure the pumpkin side-to-side at its widest point, in a straight line.

The formula used is an approximation: Estimated Weight = (Circumference × Height × Width) / Factor.

The ‘Factor’ changes depending on whether you use inches (for lbs) or centimeters (for kg). This factor is empirically derived and works best for typically shaped pumpkins. Extremely flat or unusually tall pumpkins might yield less accurate results.

Remember: This is an estimate! The actual weight can vary due to the pumpkin’s shape, wall thickness, and internal hollowness.
