Silo Volume Calculator
Estimate the storage capacity of your silo. This tool calculates the volume for cylindrical silos, with or without a conical bottom, based on your provided dimensions.
Understanding Silo Volume Calculation
Knowing your silo’s volume is crucial for inventory management, planning, and ensuring you don’t overfill. The calculation depends on the silo’s shape. Most silos are cylindrical, sometimes with a conical bottom (hopper) to aid material discharge.
Cylindrical Section Volume
The volume of the main cylindrical part of the silo is calculated using the standard formula for a cylinder:
Vcylinder = π × (Diameter / 2)2 × Cylinder Height
- π (Pi) is a mathematical constant, approximately 3.14159.
- Diameter is the internal diameter of the cylindrical section.
- Cylinder Height is the height of the straight vertical wall of the cylinder.
Conical Bottom (Hopper) Volume
If your silo has a conical bottom, its volume is calculated as:
Vcone = (1/3) × π × (Diameter / 2)2 × Cone Height
- Diameter here is the diameter at the base of the cone (which is the same as the cylinder’s diameter).
- Cone Height is the vertical height from the cone’s apex (bottom tip) to its base.
The Total Silo Volume is the sum of the cylindrical volume and the conical volume (if applicable).
