Understanding Parlay Bets & Odds

A parlay, also known as an accumulator or combo bet, is a single wager that links together two or more individual bets (called “legs”). For the parlay to win, every single leg included in the parlay must win. If even one leg loses, the entire parlay loses.

The appeal of parlays lies in their potential for significantly higher payouts compared to betting on each leg individually. This is because the winnings from each leg roll over to the next, compounding the potential return, but also increasing the risk.

How Parlay Odds are Calculated:

While sportsbooks might present parlay odds directly, understanding the underlying calculation is useful. The common method involves converting each leg’s American odds into decimal odds:

  • For positive American odds (+X): Decimal Odds = (X / 100) + 1
    Example: +150 American odds = (150 / 100) + 1 = 1.5 + 1 = 2.50 decimal odds.
  • For negative American odds (-Y): Decimal Odds = (100 / Y) + 1
    Example: -110 American odds = (100 / 110) + 1 = 0.909 + 1 = 1.909 decimal odds.

Once all legs are in decimal format, you multiply them together:

Total Decimal Parlay Odds = Decimal Odds Leg 1 × Decimal Odds Leg 2 × … × Decimal Odds Leg N

The potential payout is then:

Potential Payout = Stake Amount × Total Decimal Parlay Odds

The total profit is the Payout minus the original Stake Amount.

This calculator automates these conversions and calculations for you, providing the combined American odds for your parlay and the potential payout and profit.
