Bolt and Nut Weight Calculator
Estimate the total weight of your bolts, nuts, and washers. Select the material, size, length, and quantities to get an approximate weight. This is useful for shipping calculations, structural load estimations, or inventory management.
How Bolt & Nut Weight is Estimated
The weight of bolts, nuts, and washers primarily depends on their size (diameter and length) and the density of the material they are made from. Common materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum, each having a different density.
This calculator uses pre-defined approximate weights for standard components:
- Bolt Head Weight: Based on the selected bolt diameter and material.
- Bolt Shank Weight: Calculated from the length, diameter, and material density.
- Nut Weight: Based on the selected bolt diameter (which determines nut size) and material.
- Washer Weight: Based on the selected bolt diameter (which determines washer size) and material.
The total weight is the sum of the weights of all individual components multiplied by their respective quantities. For example:
Total Weight = (No. Bolts × (Bolt Head Wt. + Bolt Shank Wt.)) + (No. Nuts × Nut Wt.) + (No. Washers × Washer Wt.)
Keep in mind that thread profiles, head types (hex, socket, etc.), and specific alloy compositions can slightly alter the actual weight. This tool provides a good general estimate.
