Enter the number of stitches, rows, length, and width to calculate your knitting gauge.

Gauge Calculation Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the knitting gauge.

Gauge = (Number of Stitches / Width) + (Number of Rows / Length)

Variables:

  • Gauge is the number of stitches and rows per inch.
  • Number of Stitches is the total stitches in the swatch.
  • Number of Rows is the total rows in the swatch.
  • Length is the length of the swatch in inches.
  • Width is the width of the swatch in inches.

To calculate the gauge, divide the number of stitches by the width and the number of rows by the length, then sum the results.
